Course Info

Applying for this exciting course may the first step towards working in your dream industry. This practical based qualification is designed to help learners gain the skills they will need to progress into the land based sector.

The course is built up of two main units, one being animal care related, the other horticulture.

The animal care unit focuses on the learners being able to identify and understand the practical skills required to handle and restrain a small animal and will lead to the learner confidently demonstrating their ability to complete a health check on a small animal.

The horticulture unit introduces learners to the tools and equipment used in naturalising bulbs. Emphasis is on the correct selection and safe use of the equipment used in bulb planting operations. Learners will be given the opportunity to practise naturalising bulbs in turf and bedding within an acceptable timescale.

The learners will also study functional skills English, Maths and ICT along with a Certificate in Personal and Social Development as part of their study programme.

Teaching

Teaching is carried out in the classroom, in the animal care unit at college and at a local animal collection.

The course does however mainly focus on the practical aspect of course delivery.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

No formal qualifications are required although potential learners must show enthusiasm and willingness to train and work within the land-based sector.
