The BTEC Level 1 Certificate in Public Services is for students aged 16 – 18 and is a practical work-based course.
Learning occurs through the completion of work related assignments with a range of assessments to suit every student.
The Level 1 Certificate is the equivalent of 2 GCSEs at Grades D–G. You will also have an opportunity to develop essential Functional Skills.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process
An introductory course suitable for students aged 16-18.
School leavers should aim for at least 4 GCSEs at grades G or grades 1 or above which should include one of the following – Maths, English, Science, PE or IT.
Candidates will also require a satisfactory reference from their school or tutor.
Progression
On successful completion of the Level 1 Certificate, students may progress to a BTEC Level 2 qualification in Public Services.
Career opportunities in the fire & rescue services, police services, ambulance services, HM customs and excise, care work, the armed forces, military police and security and prison services are all possible following progression through Levels 1, 2 and 3.
Assessment Methods
Every learner is assessed using a variety of assessment methods such as presentations, tests, assignments, posters, podcasts, practical sessions, discussions and observations.
All assessment methods are made vocational to different public service career areas.
