Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools – Advanced Apprenticeship
NVQ Level 3
Entry Requirements: Level 2 in Supporting Teaching & Learning in Schools or relevant qualification
This qualification provides you with the core knowledge and skills needed when providing specialist support for children and/or young people in primary, secondary or special schools.
This qualification is ideal for you if you have already completed the Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools, as you will already have an understanding of the unit subject matter; undertaking the Level 3 Diploma will you to build on this knowledge and apply it in real work settings, including special schools.
You will need to be working as you will need to show competence in both knowledge and skills. You will also undertake the Employment Rights and Responsibilities workbook.
You will have access to a Training Officer who will support you through your qualification and will visit you a minimum of once every 12 weeks. You will be able to call, text or email term time and holidays (excluding bank holidays).
This course isn’t suitable for learners in a volunteering capacity, as the course comes under an apprenticeship framework so paid employment is required.
You will work towards achieving 11 units consisting of 32 credits.

- Communication and Relationships
- Schools as Organisations
- Understand Child & Young Person Development
Delivery is completed within the work place and no attendance at College is needed.
A Training Officer will plan your qualification with you and tailor it to meet your needs and role.
They will also guide you through Functional Skills, giving you extra support where needed.
Entry Requirements & Interview Process
This qualification is a good choice for you if you’re currently working in a role that support pupils learning, including teaching assistants, learning support assistants and special needs assistants.
