Bradford family praise Calderdale College as the best college in the region
At Calderdale College, we love hearing from both parents and students about their experiences with us, and we were thrilled to hear from a family from Bradford who know the College well and are reaping the rewards of studying at a high performing college, including receiving top degrees.
Shamim Hussain and her two sisters from Bradford have been fully immersed into life at Calderdale College over the years due to their five children all choosing to study here.
Shamim’s daughter and four of her nephews studied their Level 3 in Business and Business & Law, each receiving an impressive Distinction* grade.
When considering their next step after year 11, they considered several colleges in the region, including more local colleges, but decided on Calderdale College following an Open Day visit where they were suitably impressed.
Shamim said: “When my daughter came to the Open Day at Calderdale College, she instantly saw how calm and welcoming the teachers were, plus they were very kind. We felt the staff all welcomed us individually and always approached us to ask if we needed help. Plus, the teaching methods used were really impressive.”
Shamim’s sister, Yasmin Begum, had also had a memorable experience with the College when her sons studied here. Yasmin added: “We found the College very caring and helpful. Every time my sons had a problem they were always understanding and offered a solution.”
Being based in Bradford, Shamim’s nephews and daughter commuted to Halifax during their time at the College, but this didn’t stop them. Shamim commented: “Even though all the kids needed to travel to the College each day we didn’t mind helping drop them off as the College was so good to them.”
Shamim also rates the College’s facilities highly, including the campus cafe. Shamim said: “The College itself is a very calm area with lots of facilities available designed to make students’ lives easier. There are three free carparks and a large refectory, plus, there’s even a café serving Starbucks drinks on site!”
All Shamim’s nephews and daughter have now completed their courses and are continuing to further study or are now working in industry, with four of them achieving First Class Honours Degrees!
