Course Overview

The Level 1 award in cybersecurity is a single‐unit, bite‐sized 6-credit qualification at learners aged 19+ with no prior entry requirements. Learners explore key concepts like cybercrime, routine online threat protection, vulnerability and penetration testing basics, and user access control. It forms a strong foundation in digital safety, ideal for both personal development and early career relevance.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

You will be required to complete an Initial Assessment, which determines your current level of understanding in the subject. This helps us place you on the most suitable course for your skills. Once this has been completed, you will be enrolled to begin your learning journey.

 

You will need to complete an online application. Then you will be invited into an assessment and enrolment day to complete the assessment, discuss options with a qualified tutor and then enrol.

Progression

  • Digital Progression – Acts as a stepping stone to further ICT qualifications (Level 2 ICT or Digital & IT Skills) and cyber roles.

Assessment Methods

Assessment is portfolio-based. Learners complete a range of assessments and practical tasks designed to demonstrate their understanding and skills. These are internally assessed by subject tutors and then internally and externally quality assured to ensure they meet national standards. There are no formal exams, making it a supportive option for learners who prefer coursework and continuous assessment. Feedback is constructive and personalised, supporting each learner’s journey towards progression and success.

You must be ordinarily resident in England (3 years +)

Unemployed and seeking work or employed and earning less than £25,000 per year

Career Opportunities

  • Apprenticeships – Supports progression into Level 2 or 3 apprenticeships in IT Support or Cyber Security pathways.
  • Personal & Professional Development – Equips learners and employees with the basic knowledge to protect personal data and reduce cyber risk in everyday settings.
