Course Overview

This qualification is designed to develop your knowledge and understanding of autism, including how it can affect individuals in areas such as communication, social interaction, sensory processing and behaviour. Ideal for anyone working, or preparing to work, in education, healthcare or social care settings.

You will explore key topics such as the characteristics, diagnosis and legislative context of autism, as well as strategies for providing person-centered support. This course is particularly valuable for those looking to improve inclusive practice and promote positive outcomes for autistic individuals. This is a knowledge-based qualification, delivered flexibly and does not require practical placement. It is suitable for a wide range of learners, including teaching assistants, support workers and those in a voluntary capacity.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

There are no specific recommended prior learning requirements for this qualification. However, learners may find it helpful if they’ve already achieved a Level 1 qualification.

Applicants will be invited to an informal interview with the programme leader to discuss the course further.

Progression

After completing this course, students may progress onto Understanding Autism Level 3 or explore more qualifications in Health & Social Care or Teaching & Learning.

Assessment Methods

To achieve the Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism, learners must successfully demonstrate their achievement of all learning outcomes and assessment criteria of the units as detailed in the qualification specification. Grades are not awarded. The Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Autism is internally assessed.
