In partnership FC Halifax Town and Calderdale College operate a youth team and shadow team programme offering a unique training scheme for young talented footballers aged 16-19.
The centre provides the perfect environment for young athletes to develop in their chosen sport whilst studying towards a nationally recognised qualification. Through our partnership with FC Halifax, we offer a progressive pathway where athletes have the opportunity to progress to professional standard.
The Programme
FC Halifax Town have established a long-standing partnership with Calderdale College to deliver a bespoke Youth Team Scholarship with the aim of providing a learning environment that maximises the potential of young footballer on and off the pitch.
FC Halifax Town are an accredited National League Academy and aim to develop adaptable players that excel in the technical, tactical, psychological and physiological components of the modern professional game.
Successful players will be given a two-year scholarship with FC Halifax Town and combine full time professional football training with studying towards a NCFE Diploma in Sport or an Electrical Diploma via Calderdale College’s Trade Academy.
Coaching Programme
Strength & Conditioning
- 2-3 weekly training sessions aimed at developing specific aspects of player movement, physical performance and reducing risk of injury.
Technical / Tactical Training
- A structured programme ensuring rounded player development. 5 weekly sessions; team training, technical session, ILP/PS session delivered by a team of 4 coaches qualified to UEFA A/B. Through our training programme we hope to create a culture where players understand the need for purposeful practice and the role it plays in
the quest for excellence. - Our coaching team follow a coaching syllabus that cover six components of the game to ensure consistent delivery, with a focus on developing the individual within a style of play will be established through a core set of principles.
- Our programme is delivered by highly qualified staff, dedicated to giving scholars every chance to succeed. A physio clinic operates supporting and rehabilitating injured players. All players receive access to the FC Halifax Town Guidelines and Success folder, designed to support and guide our young players on their football journey.
Competition, Analysis & Coaching Programme
- Our teams compete in the National League Academy, National Football Youth League programmes and the prestigious FA Youth Cup.
- Fixtures are recorded, games are analysed and players are able to access clips on phones/ tablets to support individual/unit/team development using Hudl and Veo platforms.
Education
- Players receive up to 13 hours weekly of theoretical study with the option to study the NCFE Diploma in Sport (equivalent of 3 A-Levels).
- This course not only covers the study of sport nutrition, sports performance analysis and anatomy and physiology in sport, it also gives students the opportunity to organise events and gain relevant experience in sports coaching and supports player on-pitch development.
- Alternatively, players can follow the Trade Academy pathway studying towards a Level 1 & 2 Diploma in Electrical.
Progression
- There are many benefits and pathways leading on from success on our programme. Our ultimate ambition is to create a programme that will give young players the best possible chance of progressing towards our first team.
- In addition, the education pathway offers a fully-recognised qualification for UCAS applications, USA scholarships, apprenticeships or entering the world of work.

Youth Team to First Team
Carl Rushworth, Brighton & Hove Albion, England U18 & U19, over 130 EFL appearances. On loan to Walsall, Lincoln City and Swansea.
Jay Benn, following his breakthrough season with FC Halifax Town in the National League, Jay departed to Lincoln City in League One. Jay is currently on loan at Bradford City.
Ross Barrows, over 100 appearances at National League and National League North.
Teddy Lavelle & Frankie Sinfield are both youth team graduates, currently contracted for the first team.
