Course Overview

The NCFE Level 1 Certificate in Sport is designed to support learners’ personal development through gaining knowledge and practical skills in sport, exercise and fitness. The course introduces learners to the sport and active leisure sector, helping them build confidence, teamwork and communication skills.

Learners take part in a mix of practical activities and classroom-based learning, developing an understanding of fitness, coaching and participation in sport. The qualification also focuses on transferable skills that can support future employment or further study. It is suitable for learners with little or no prior experience and provides a foundation for progression to Level 2 sport or public services courses.

During this course, you will complete modules including:

  • Taking part in sport
  • Sports coaching
  • Personal exercise and fitness
  • Assist at a sports event
  • Understanding the sport and active leisure sector

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

Applicants are expected to have 5 GCSEs at Grade 1 or higher, including Maths and English. You will be invited to attend an interview.

NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Sport Level 2 Public Services or Uniformed Services courses Apprenticeships in sport and leisure Further study in coaching or fitness pathways

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence (coursework-based), practical assessments and observations, written assignments and tasks and tutor assessment with external quality assurance.
