Course Overview

This course provides individuals with a strong foundation in the principles and practices of adult
health and social care. It develops individuals understanding of safeguarding, person-centred
care, communication, equality and inclusion, health and safety, duty of care, confidentiality and
the role and responsibilities of social care workers.

Individuals will also develop an understanding of professional conduct, personal development
and effective information handling within social care settings. The course supports individuals to
develop the knowledge, values and behaviours required to work safely, effectively and
respectfully with individuals accessing health and social care services.

Overall, the course provides a strong foundation for learners progressing into employment or
further study within the health and social care sector, supporting the development of a skilled
workforce able to meet the needs of individuals and communities.

• Handling information, confidentiality and data securely

Course summary – Award in Dementia

This course develops learner’s understanding of dementia and the impact it can have on
individuals, families and carers. It covers the different types and experiences of dementia,
including its effects on memory, cognition, behaviour, emotions and everyday life. Learners will
explore the principles of safe medication administration using a person-centred approach,
including consent, dignity, choice, risk and accurate recording.

The course also focuses on effective communication and positive interactions with people living
with dementia, including verbal and non-verbal communication, empathy and strategies to
reduce distress or confusion.

Learners will develop an understanding of diversity, equality and inclusion in dementia care,
recognising the importance of respecting individual identity, culture, beliefs, preferences and
life experiences while promoting dignity, independence and quality of life.
The course covers:
• Understanding dementia, its different types and how it can affect individuals, families
and carers
• Exploring the physical, cognitive, emotional and social impact of dementia
• Providing person-centred support that promotes dignity, independence, choice and
quality of life
• Understanding safe medication administration and the responsibilities involved
• Recognising the importance of consent, individual preferences, risk management and
accurate recording
• Developing effective communication and interaction skills when supporting people living
with dementia
• Using verbal and non-verbal communication to reduce confusion and distress
• Understanding diversity, equality and inclusion in dementia care
• Recognising and respecting individual culture, beliefs, identity, preferences and life
experiences
• Promoting inclusive, respectful and compassionate dementia care

These courses will give learners the knowledge, skills and confidence to provide safe, person
centred and inclusive care, with a particular focus on supporting individuals living with
dementia. They will strengthen communication, safeguarding and professional skills, helping
learners to progress into health and social care employment, existing roles or further study and
higher-level qualifications within the sector.

Course Fees

Fully funded Eligibility for Participants who :

• Don’t already hold a level 3 qualification
• Hold a level 3 qualification but are unemployed
• Hold a level 3 qualification, are employed or self-employed but earn less
than £26,800 per annum

Age: participants must be 19 years old or older as of 31st August 2026
Residency: participants must reside in West Yorkshire
