Calderdale College joins School Street scheme

**IMPORTANT - School Street update**

With effect from 9am, Friday 18 September - Calderdale Council will reopen Francis Street to all vehicles due to traffic displacement on Parkinson Lane following the closure. The council will now conduct a 6-week consultation under the experiential traffic regulation order.

The College is working closely with Calderdale Council during the consultation period to support the benefits of School Street.

Calderdale College has been selected to join the School Street initiative, which aims to improve the health, wellbeing and safety around schools and colleges.

Effective from Monday 7 September, Calderdale Council will implement road closure controls on Francis St for all through traffic. The area of road closed is indicated in red on the map below.

This means that how you access the College campus and car parks will change. Please see the information below on how this will affect you.

There are significant health and wellbeing benefits to the School Street scheme, such as tackling air pollution, poor health and road danger reduction.  School Street also encourages active travel, such as walking and cycling, leading to better mental and physical health, which the College fully supports.

Travelling to College

Active travel

If you are travelling on foot or by bicycle your journey will be unaffected. You will benefit from a pedestrianised and safe area of Francis Street once you reach the College. Cycle parking is available on campus.

Driving to College

Access to car park 3, adjacent to the wind turbine is accessible if traveling from the Parkinson Lane direction.

Access to car park 1 (Inspire) and car park 2 (PWC) are accessible from Hopwood Lane, from either the Queens Road or King Cross road direction.

Car passengers

If you are driven to the College by someone else, such as a family member or taxi, please consider the location where you are dropped off to ease traffic congestion in the local area.  This will also provide you with the opportunity to take in some exercise by walking some of the journey to College.

If you are dropped off at the College, please observe the drive in / out drop-off and collection point in car park 1 (see the plan below with blue and yellow indicators)

Students with accessibility needs and those enrolled on Employability and Life Skills (ELS)

Students with accessibility needs who arrive by Calderdale Council transport, family members or taxi can be dropped off and collected at the dedicated zone in car park 2, which is accessible from Hopwood lane (see plan below).

On arrival, students will be greeted by a member of staff.
