A group of 38 students from Calderdale College have set off on a once-in-a-lifetime 15-day educational visit to Morocco, where they will immerse themselves in a vibrant blend of culture, heritage and hands-on learning.
This exciting international opportunity has been made possible thanks to £61,000 of funding secured through the Turing Scheme, which provides students with pathways to develop personal and professional skills through global experiences linked directly to their studies. The trip has been delivered in partnership with The Learning Adventure.
David Malone, Principal and Chief Executive at Calderdale College, said: “This Moroccan adventure will broaden students’ perspectives in powerful ways through travel and tourism, giving them meaningful learning experiences far beyond the classroom.
“For many, this will be their first time travelling abroad and we’re incredibly proud to be able to offer this transformative opportunity through the Turing Scheme and The Learning Adventure. We are confident this trip will foster greater independence and global awareness, highlighting the profound impact of educational experiences can have when students embrace different cultures and ways of life.”
Students will experience Morocco’s rich history and traditions first-hand, exploring bustling souks, historic architecture and engaging with local communities in the Atlas mountains.
They will also take part in cultural workshops and collaborative projects designed to enhance their understanding of sustainable tourism, global citizenship and cross-cultural communication.
The academic and personal development opportunities embedded throughout the visit are expected to have a lasting impact, equipping students with enhanced confidence, adaptability and employability skills when they return home.
Ajo, a T Level Health students excited for the trip, said: “The trip to Morocco is an incredible opportunity.
“Being able to experience a completely different culture, meet new people and challenge myself outside of my comfort zone is something I’m really looking forward to. It is my first time in Africa and I can’t wait to go with the College!”
The Turing Scheme offers grant funding to education providers to enable students and apprentices to undertake study and work placements across the world. Last year, the College hosted a trip to Bali, Indonesia with the scheme.
This latest international visit marks another exciting chapter in Calderdale College’s commitment to providing transformative global experiences, ensuring students gain the knowledge, confidence and cultural awareness needed to thrive in their future careers.
