Calderdale College students push basketball academy to League Title win

Calderdale College, in partnership with the Bradford Dragons Academy team, were crowned league champions for the first time.

The partnership offers a unique opportunity where student athletes studying at Calderdale College can begin their basketball career with an NBL Division 1 league club, whilst gaining a T Level or BTEC qualification.

The team, known as the Dragons, won the Yorkshire and Humberside Basketball League Division 1, despite losing in their last game against Leeds City College. The top of the table clash saw the Dragons go into the game with enough points to win the league, not matter the outcome of the match.

College student and top player Ethan, who was nominated for the Student of the Year Award at this years’ Star Awards, said: “It feels incredible to be league champions.I really like being part of the team and I think it’s great that I can do it whilst studying at college.”
