Jason Sweeney - Creative Media

Jason Sweeney studied Creative Media at Calderdale College, in which he achieved pass, merit. Jason is now working for Prime Creative Limited, a local design and marketing company based in Halifax, in a client services role.

What was your experience of Calderdale College?

“Calderdale College has some amazing staff and I wouldn’t be where I am now without them, my progress coach Rick always offered great advice and tried to help me whenever possible. It’s great that I have qualifications to help me but what really helped was the people that pushed me, both the staff and students.

“Calderdale College saw past my academics and gave me the support I needed to get a career on a path that was suitable for me. I had no idea what job I wanted when I started college, I was quite lost after not having the best results in my GCSEs and to me it seemed my options were limited.”

How did the course help you?

Jason joined the course due to his interest in photography, but he says: “From day one I was amazed at all the options I could choose on the course, what I wanted my projects to be based on and the tools I could use.

“You learn a lot about the industry even to the point we had a visit from a local employer, Vama Kitchens, who gave us a brief to work to. This was the first experience I had dealing with a client and it wasn’t something I expected to be doing at that age or level.

“This course really gives you a feel for time management and working to deadlines just as you would in an agency or most job roles. The course uses some of the best software and hardware that is used in the industry, which allowed me to be comfortable with the work I produce in my current job as I was already well aware of how to use the tools I was provided with.”

What are your plans for the future?

Jason plans to start his own company in the future, although he acknowledges that this won’t be easy. He says “I’ve spent the past year researching the market, crunching numbers and trying to create an identity for a brand. This is all a bit further down the line and there is lots of work to do.

“For now, I hope to keep boosting my network and building my skills. I love the work I do and the people I get to meet. The future can be uncertain but I’m certain that I have a future and I’ll do my best to make the most of it.”
