Course Overview

This qualification is an introduction to teaching in the further education and skills sector.

This course gives an insight into the roles, responsibilities and relationships involved in education and training; how to plan and deliver inclusive teaching/training sessions and how to assess and give constructive feedback.

It is aimed at candidates who would like an introduction to teaching, are in a teaching/training role but do not have a formal qualification, or considering a change in career.

This training will work towards achieving 3 units:

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training
  • Understanding the principles and practices of assessment

There is no teaching practice requirement so you can complete the qualification if you are not in a teaching role.

This qualification is suitable for teachers in further education, teachers in adult and community education, teachers in work-based learning and the voluntary sector, technicians and support staff in further and adult education, trainers in commerce, industry, the public sector and the uniformed services or HM Forces.

Progression

You can progress to the Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training or to the Certificate in Education/PGCE awarded by Huddersfield University.

Assessment Methods

To achieve the qualification, candidates must successfully complete 3 theoretical assignments and 1 practical assessment.

Candidates are required to deliver a minimum of one 30 minute micro teaching session. In-service candidates can be observed in one of their teaching sessions, which must be no more than 20 minutes.

Course Fees

Eligibility for fully-funded participants

  • Don’t already hold a Level 3 qualification
  • Hold a Level 3 qualification but are unemployed
  • Hold a Level 3 qualification, are employed or self-employed but earn less than £25,750 per annum

Participants must be 19 years or older as of 31 August 2025.

Participants must reside in West Yorkshire.
