Course Overview

City & Guilds Level 1 Certificate in Engineering

This Level 1 Certificate in Welding, Fabrication and Cutting Skills is a foundation course for learners wanting a practical, hands on learning experience that will lead to a nationally recognised qualification. It is a great place to start for anyone wanting to pursue a career in engineering.

You will learn the fundamentals of engineering through completing a variety of practical assessments. You will develop your ability to work with hand tools, powered tools as well a wide range of sheet metal working and fabrication equipment.

There are additional opportunities to develop skills that can support careers in pattern making and fabrication.

In addition to the main qualification you will also have opportunity to develop other skills and gain additional qualifications in MMA and MIG welding that will help broaden the range of career opportunities available to you.

You will also have opportunity to take part in outdoor activities along with a wide range of cross college activities.

The bulk of this qualification is delivered in the workshop environment.

In addition to learning the practical aspects of engineering and how to use the equipment you will be taught how to work safely and effectively.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

At the start of your course we would expect you to complete an initial assessment to determine your current level of Maths and English, this will help us to ensure that you are the right course at the right level for you.

It also helps us to plan your programme and to make sure that the right support is in place for you.

Progression

Level 2 and 3 in an Engineering course or employment.
