Men & Women’s Rugby Academy

Study Area: 16-18
Duration: 2 years
Attendance: Full Time alongside study programme

Course Overview

If you live, breath and sleep Rugby, then we’re the college for you. Our Rugby Academy, in partnership with Halifax Panthers, is a unique opportunity for you to combine any full time study programme with your Rugby.

All training which includes gym, field and video analysis sessions, are incorporated into your bespoke Monday – Friday, 9am – 5pm timetable. Wednesday afternoon is blocked out for your fixtures.

The Programme

The men’s team compete in the Yorkshire league. Most recently, we competed against Hull FC, Hull KR and Leeds Rhino’s Foundation.

The women’s team compete in a 9-a-side league format, with national competitions throughout the year. After three successful back-to-back league finals, the women’s team is the most consistent in the league and we aspire to keep on this track with a fourth finals pending.

We use VEO to record our fixtures, which students will have access to. Additionally, we have a Catapult GPS system which can be used to track individual player performance metrics. Field sessions are focused on core skills, as we try to manage your training load with community and professional club commitments. We also have an elite performance suite, which as a member of the academy, you will receive a free membership for.

Students currently enrolled on the programme come from all areas of Calderdale College, from our trade courses to business and law, health and social, public services and more.

Halifax Panthers Under 19s Academy, is the only official pathway to the Halifax Panther’s first team. The Academy allows student athletes studying at Calderdale College to begin their rugby career with a professional league club, whilst gaining a nationally-recognised BTEC qualification.

Learn a Trade as an Academy Student

The Academy also offers a unique opportunity for players to study in our Trade Academy for a qualification in a trade of their choice – the only sports education programme in the country delivering such a route.
