Rebecca, Events Manager at The Venue on the joy of Lifelong Learning

To celebrate The Festival of Learning’s Lifelong Learning Week, we’ve been speaking to Rebecca, Events Manager at The Venue who we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming onto the first cohort of our Management Development Programme.

Rebecca has been working at The Venue for just over a year and was looking to expand her management skills. After completing her Management course with Rise last week, she talks to us about the importance of continued learning and the social benefits of training.

Rebecca said: “Being part of the Management Development Programme with a group of others working in management roles in Calderdale, has given me the opportunity to meet new people I’d probably have never known otherwise, it was a great place for social and formal networking.

“Our group have truly made friends too which is refreshing after spending so much time working remotely since Covid lockdowns. We’re went out together to celebrate the course finishing last week and I know I will continue to catch up with the group going forwards.

“It’s also unintentionally been great for business networking too. Two participants from Nu-Swift which supply and service fire extinguishers, are now a provider for my workplace The Venue and do the servicing of our equipment – a connection made through the course.”

Why is lifelong learning important?

Rebecca continues: “In the hospitality industry it is essential that we keep up to date with trends and ensure that everything we do is for our guests. That is why participation in these courses is imperative to ensure that our continuation in lifelong learning never stops.

“This is the first time I have completed management training and I am much better leader and person because of it. I am much more direct, enthused and sure of how to manage my team effectively.

“My training with Rise has been Incredibly motivational, interactive and engaging and I wholeheartedly encourage others to invest in their own learning and development whatever their career!”
