Triumph for Calderdale College apprentices at West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards

Calderdale College celebrates seven talented apprentices that have been recognised for their career achievements at the 2024 West Yorkshire Apprenticeship Awards!

Scooping the award for Construction Apprentice of the Year, Lucie Fieldhouse recently completed her apprenticeship in Electrical Installation with the College and achieved a Distinction grade. Emilie Marshall, who studied an apprenticeship in Children and Young People’s Families Practitioner, was Highly Commended in the Higher Apprentice of the Year category.

Lucie was recognised for her passion and determination in completing her 42-month apprenticeship in just two-years. Now, successfully running her own business, Benchmark Electrics, Lucie has shown resilience throughout her studies, challenging the gender bias in the male-dominated industry by exceeding targets and supporting her fellow apprentices.

Another win for the College! Emilie was acknowledged as Highly Commended in the Higher Apprentice of the Year category through her work as an apprentice at Timeout Homes, a Sowerby Bridge based children’s organisation that provides residential care in Calderdale. Emilie has demonstrated an outstanding approach to her work as an apprentice in a community-based role helping young people in the district.

The annual apprenticeship awards, hosted by National World, highlight the outstanding delivery of apprenticeship programmes and the individual achievements of apprentices across the region. The 14 category awards acknowledged the exceptional efforts of all that make apprenticeships happen in our community.

Nominees from the College, the apprentices’ employers, trainers and local-business partners alike came together at Cedar Court Hotel, Bradford, on Thursday 9 May to celebrate the innovation and excellence of young learners in West Yorkshire who are embracing new opportunities through an apprenticeship.

Ebrahim Dockrat MBE, Director of Commercial Services and Partnerships at Calderdale College, said: “We are delighted to see our apprentices be recognised for their achievements. It is testament to their hard work and dedication both throughout their studies and with their employer.

“Calderdale College is committed to helping to close skills gaps across a range of sectors in West Yorkshire. Our Training Officers go above and beyond to ensure apprentices gain the most up-to-date knowledge in their chosen sector, wherever they are in their career, so their time with us seamlessly compliments their day-to-day work with their employer.

“Congratulations to Lucie on securing the win of the Construction Apprentice of the Year award and to Emilie for being highly commended.”

The seven apprentices, Frank Darby, Elliott Dickson, Lee Bell, Harrison Peckover, Andrew Greenwood, Lucie Fieldhouse and Shauni Johnson, were shortlisted for a total of 11 awards across four categories, including Intermediate Apprentice of the Year, Advanced Apprentice of the Year, Construction Apprentice of the Year and Professional Services Apprentice of the Year.
