Meet the Course Leader

Joe Lumb, Course Leader, Construction

"I started my construction career as a young lad working with my father. I attended college to study Brickwork and completed an Apprenticeship. I then worked as a self-employed building contractor before training to teach and joining Calderdale College in 2004. I am a member of the Yorkshire branch of The Guild of Bricklayers, and judge in other regions for The Guild of Bricklayers competitions. Calderdale College in recent years has done very well in preparing students for these competitions which is testimony to the quality of our teach! For me personally, seeing students develop their skills ready for the workplace is the most rewarding aspect of my work."

Student Testimonial

Level 2 Brickwork student, Cameron Gregory

"I'm here because I used to come here on a school outreach programme for a couple of years and I just really enjoyed it, all the tutors were nice, the place was nice, so I just came back here because I knew it was good. When we first started we were just doing basic models, but now we are doing design models and garden walls and I am going in for competitions. The tutors are really good to work with because they've had the experience on building sites. I am hoping to start my own business and I am pretty sure with the stuff I have learnt here I won't go wrong."
