Course Overview

This course allows 19+ learners to develop basic Maths skills through contextual problem solving. We run Functional Skills courses at the following levels: Entry 3, Level 1, Level 2. Level 2 is equivalent to GCSE grade 4.

There are daytime and evening classes for all levels. You will have one 3-hour class per week, plus homework. Tutors are highly qualified and experienced specialists who design your own Individual Learning Plan and use a variety of teaching techniques to suit your learning style.

The Certificate in Adult Maths course will give you:

  • Pride in gaining a nationally recognised qualification
  • A qualification for your CV, job applications or college applications
  • Extra confidence, a sense of achievement and the ability to progress.

This is a roll-on, roll-off course so a learner may complete up to two levels within one year of starting.

You will learn to solve both calculator and non-calculator problems.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

As students will be assessed before enrolment, there are no set entry requirements.

Progression

Depending upon the starting point, further levels of Functional Maths may be available or progression could be onto GCSE Maths. This will be discussed with the Adult Progression Officer.

Assessment Methods

Learners will undertake two exams for each level: a non-calculator exam and a calculator exam.
