Course Overview

T Level Foundation Digital (Level 2)

This course includes theory and practical computer work to produce a range of digital products. You will study the Online World and Technology Systems and sit an exam in these two subjects. You will use a computer to create graphics, websites, spreadsheets, databases and animation.

Subject areas studied include:

  • Online World – investigating online services and online communication, investigating components of the internet and how digital devices exchange and store information, investigating issues that may arise when operating online.
  • Technology Systems – learning how the components of technology systems work together, how data flows between internal components of a computer and how data is processed to provide information, and different types of software.
  • Digital Portfolio – preparing a digital portfolio to showcase skills learnt on the course to a potential employer – including designing the portfolio, creating and testing the portfolio and reviewing the portfolio.
  • Website Development – researching tools and techniques used in website design and production and designing, creating using HTML, testing and reviewing an 8 page website.
  • Database Development – researching the tools and techniques used in relational databases and designing, creating, testing and reviewing a multi-table relational database.
  • Digital Graphics – identifying different types of digital graphics and comparing graphical image. Using Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and other graphics software to design, create, test and review a range of digital images.
  • Computer System Security – investigate and apply the fundamentals of computer security in practice. Consider a number of the common security threats that may affect computers and systems and the range of common protection measures available. Assess the security risks to a computer or system and be able to assess the vulnerabilities.

Students will also have the opportunity to sit GCSE English and/or Maths.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

This is an intermediate course suitable for those who have at least 4 GCSEs at grade D or grade 3 including Maths and English or a relevant/equivalent Level 1 qualification.

Progression

This qualification will provide progression opportunities to the T Level Digital Developer course, T Level Cyber Security/ Networking, Level 3 Games Design, Level 3 Esports or apprenticeships.

Career Opportunities
Website Designer and Developer, System Support, Technical Support, Database Management.

Assessment Methods

The course is assessed via tutor-led internal assessment throughout the course using assignments and external assessment in the form of an onscreen short answer and multiple choice exam.
