Course Overview

This is an ideal qualification for those considering a career in health or applied sciences.

GCSE Biology is the study of living organisms and their structure, life-cycles, adaptations and environment.

  • Cell biology
  • Organisation
  • Infection and response
  • Bioenergetics
  • Homeostasis and response
  • Inheritance, variation and evolution
  • Ecology

Exams will take place in May / June. The formal assessment will be two 1 hour 45 minute exams, covering the following:

  • Exam 1 – Cell biology, organisation, infection & response, bioenergetics
  • Exam 2 – Homeostasis, inheritance, variation & evolution, ecology

You will also complete 10 required practicals, questions on which could be included on either of the exam papers.

Monday evening: 5.30 pm to 8.30 pm

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

Students must have GCSE grade 3/D  in Maths, English & Science and attend an interview and short assessment.

Progression

You may require the GCSE Biology qualification to enter employment in Teaching, Nursing, Physiotherapy, Sport and Fitness, or Health and Social Care. The GCSE is also a requirement of many Level 3 science related courses, as well as many University Degrees.

Assessment Methods

This qualification is linear. Linear means that students will sit all their exams at the end of the course.
