This is a one year BTEC programme, designed as a stepping stone towards entering initial employment in such positions as, customer service assistant, office based work, general business or even setting up your own business.
The course is designed to broaden your understanding and knowledge of business and to develop important personal, academic and business skills. For the ‘Certificate’ you will study eight exciting and interactive units over three terms, which includes the following ‘Core’ and ‘Mandatory Units’
Plus: five specialist Units. Examples of these units are listed below:
Throughout the programme of study, students will also learn and develop valuable Functional, Life & Work Skills; all of which help prepare them for work and their future careers.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION – Dress Code for all Business courses
Students attending classes in Business are expected to wear smart business attire (including footwear) for all lessons attended. It is therefore important that students ensure they have sufficient quantities of smart clothing to meet this requirement on a week by week basis.
Smart Business attire would be classed as clothing & footwear commensurate with attending an important job interview or working in a professional business office.
Financial assistance in respect of acquiring suitable clothing for this course may be available for qualifying students. All enquires in this regard should be directed to College Student Services.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process
An intermediate course suitable for those who have at least 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (including English & Mathematics) or a relevant/equivalent Full Level 1 qualification at Distinction.
Progression
BTEC Level 3 in Business Studies or Business Enterprise, Apprenticeship in Customer Service or in Business Administration.
The course could lead to a wide range of career opportunities including: Customer Service, Business Administration or Business Management.
Assessment Methods
The Finance for Business Core Unit and Principles of Marketing Mandatory Unit are both externally assessed by examination.
The Finance for Business Exam is an ‘on-demand’ computer based test lasting 60 minutes. Scripts are marked manually and results are normally available between 28 and 52 days after the date of the test. Students are able to book to re-sit the Finance for Business On-Line test as soon as their results are known.
The Principles of Marketing Exam is a Paper Based Exam lasting 1 hour 30 minutes. This exam has fixed exam dates (just like GCSEs).
The provisional examination dates (TBC) for 2018/19 these are:-
Wednesday 9th January 2019 @ 09:30 – Results published w/c 12th April 2019
Thursday 16th May 2019 @ 13:30 – Results published w/c 23rd August 2019
Assessment of ALL other units of the programme is through completing projects and internally assessed assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.
