Course Overview

This qualification is designed as a ‘bridging qualification’ for those who wish to progress to subject specific literacy and ESOL teacher education programmes.

This course allows you to develop your personal skills in English to Level 3 and evidence these to meet the entry criteria for higher level subject specialist qualifications.

It is also appropriate for vocational tutors and support staff working with learners to improve their English skills up to Level 2.

You complete 4 mandatory units:

  • Analysing English language for literacy and language teaching
  • Reading skills for literacy and language teaching
  • Speaking and listening skills for literacy and language teaching
  • Writing skills for literacy and language teaching

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

Level 2 qualification in English or the ability to demonstrate secure skills at this level.

Progression

Certificate in Education/PGCE with a specialist pathway in Literacy/ESOL teaching; subject specialist teaching qualifications at Level 5.

Assessment Methods

Three of the units are assessed through internally marked timed tests. These take place during the taught sessions.

Speaking and listening skills are assessed through a short presentation (5-10 minutes) and a group discussion.

The fee for this course is £520

Plus an additional £50 registration fee

This course does not attract any funding and therefore the full cost of the fees are payable by the student irrespective of their circumstances.
