Our range of support
Mandy Charlton – SEND Support Team Leader
Responsible for placing support in class for students who have SEND or additional needs
There are two types of support:
Academic Skills Assistant (ASA)
- To support in vocational areas, English and math’s
- To work 1:1 or small groups depending on the needs of the students
- To provide notetakers if required
- To support with exam concessions e.g. reader, scribe, extra time, read aloud, claro software and rest breaks
Personal Skills Assistant (PSA)
- To support with social and emotional needs
- To support students to manage their behavior
- To provide reassurance to students and to keep them on track with their course work
- To provide support at breaks and lunches for students who require it e.g. due to anxiety, a busy environment or requiring emotional support
ASD Officers to provide Pastoral Support
- To meet and greet learners on a daily basis including escorting to class if required
- To provide a break out space for students who require time out
- A dedicated area for use at lunch time to provide a quiet environment for students
- To enable students to manage difficulties arising from college life by providing confidence building and coping strategies
Communications Support Worker (CSW)
- Qualified BSL interpreters for students with a hearing impairment
- Staff trained in Deaf Awareness
- Specialist equipment available upon request

Steve Stewart – SEND Process & Policy Team Leader
Responsible for a number of areas:
Transition Officer
- To support the Transition Process for students joining the College with an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) or additional needs
- To support students progressing from Employability Life Skills (ELS) to Project search or vocational courses
SEND Specialist Learning Team
- To carry out Diagnostic Assessments for students who have specific learning difficulties.
- To support the SEND Process and Policy Team Leader in managing access arrangements for exam concessions
- To provide specialist 1:1 support sessions for students who have identified specialist needs
- To provide Scotopic Sensitivity Screening
EHCP Consultation and Reviews
- To ensure the needs of students with EHCPs can be met, through the statutory consultation process carried out by the Local Authority
- To ensure that EHCP reviews are held within 12 months of the final plan or the last review
- With the support of the EHCP Officer to facilitate and manage annual reviews of EHCPs
EHCP Officer
To support the SEND Process and Policy Team Leader with the annual review process for students who have an EHCP
EHCP Assessment Requests
- To carry out the application for an EHCP assessment request for students who are currently on the college role
- To respond to requests for information from agencies and professionals, who are supporting young people and or parents to make an EHCP assessment request
