“Absolutely amazing.” That’s how Amie England describes her Calderdale College experience. Faced with personal trauma, Amie, who is part way through a Level 3 Beauty Therapy course at the college, has shown true resilience to achieve success in her field and take the first steps forward in fulfilling her dream to build her own beauty empire.
Having already completed the Level 2 Beauty Therapy course at Calderdale College, Amie expects to complete the Level 3 course this summer. In parallel with her studies, Amie is an apprentice beautician at Therapy Skincare in Halifax.
Such has been the aptitude and dedication shown by Amie, despite losing her fiancé and suffering a miscarriage, she has been promoted to assistant manager of the business during her apprenticeship at the award-winning salon.
Amie says: “I have received a massive amount of support from Calderdale College during my apprenticeship. The tutors really do go above and beyond for their students and provide them with all the support and guidance they need to set them up for their futures.
“Key benefits of the apprenticeship have been the ability to learn whilst gaining valuable experience in the workplace; the variety of courses the college offers to improve your beauty skills; and the opportunity to work alongside some amazing people that push you forward and support you to be the absolute best you can be.”
Training Officer Charlotte Walker said: “Amie is a fantastic learner who has shown true resilience. Her promotion at Therapy Skincare has been thoroughly deserved, with owner Louise Jones recognising Amie’s continued commitment and dedication to both her job role and her qualification.
“Amie is a true professional who also has a warm and friendly disposition. She has also achieved high exam results, is an excellent therapist and is a credit to herself and Calderdale College.”
Amie added: “Overall, my apprenticeship has been a rollercoaster of emotions but an absolutely amazing experience. I have an amazing team at work and within Calderdale College that provide me with support and guidance.
“I think that without the colleagues that I work alongside and my apprentice college tutor Charlotte I wouldn’t be where I am today. I feel that as a person my apprenticeship has set me up for life doing a job that I love doing.
“One of the goals for the future is to take a step forward and possibly have my own beauty empire. I want to take what I have experienced throughout my apprenticeship and push myself to be the absolute best that I can be.”
