Business reaps the rewards following free training from Skills Support for the Workforce

Struggling with staff retention rates and wondering how to take a business forward in terms of growing revenue are tricky challenges to navigate as an SME. However, these are challenges that skills training can help to address.

The Skills Support for the Workforce (SSW) Programme is a free service, created to help small to medium-sized employers turn their business growth plans into reality by upskilling their existing workforce.

Delivering free training across North Yorkshire and Tees Valley, SSW is a project being delivered by Calderdale College's External Funding Unit.

When Lee Harris-Hamer, Managing Director of White Horse Cleaning Services, a commercial-based cleaning company in Thirsk, North Yorkshire, found himself faced with training challenges he sought advice from SSW.

Lee’s staff took several fully-funded training courses including Award in Industrial Environmental Awareness, Certificate in Principles of Business and Admin, Certificate in Customer Service and Certificate in Team Leading.

Not only do staff now feel more confident in their job roles, which has helped to improve staff retention, but Lee has also been able to reward and promote employees thanks to their new skill levels, and has even grown his business’s revenue by 134%.
