Clara Stead – Administration Apprentice

Clara Stead’s workplace journey has started close to home. Here at Calderdale College to be exact. Having successfully completed a traineeship within the College, Clara was interviewed for, and secured, a position on a Level 2 Business Administration apprenticeship with us.

Clara’s efforts were rewarded with a nomination from her team leader for Apprentice of the Year in the College’s staff awards.

The Apprenticeship

Clara began her one-year apprenticeship last March, splitting her time between the College’s Curriculum Support and Work Based Learning teams.

She is now working full-time in the Work Based Learning team, where she is continuing her development and providing valued support to the wider apprenticeships team.

Clara says: “Being an apprentice has benefited me as it allows me to learn and complete a qualification whilst being in a work environment and earning a wage.

“I have enjoyed attending college one day a week for a class as this has given me the opportunity to meet more apprentices on the same course as me.”

Rachel Hakier, Business Administration at Calderdale College, said: “Clara has displayed nothing but dedication to the course and will ultimately progress onto the Business Administration Level 3 standard. I believe her positive attitude will ensure she succeeds in this too.”

Clara added: “Attending the staff conference after being nominated for the Apprenticeship of the Year award has been a highlight of my apprenticeship so far.

“I have also received a lot of support from Calderdale College, especially at the start of my apprenticeship when I was unsure about what was expected of me in my written work. My Training Officer and other members of staff at the College have answered any questions I’ve had about my course and my options for the future.

“Following the completion of my Level 2 apprenticeship, I hope to continue onto a Level 3 working in the same department, and possibly a Level 4 after that.

“I would like to carry on working in administration and having more responsibility as I gain more experience.”
