Corey Kitson – Carpentry and Joinery

Carpentry and Joinery student Corey Kitson is one to watch in the construction industry as he excels throughout his first year at Calderdale College.

Corey has had an aspiration to run his own joinery business from a young age and knew that Calderdale College was the place to give him the skills, experience and qualifications to make his dream become a reality.

With a quarter of full time students gaining an apprenticeship in their first year of study at Calderdale College, Corey is hopeful that his determination to succeed and natural flair for the trade will land him an apprenticeship so he can continue his studies.

Corey said: “I have always wanted to work for myself -something I have known for a long time. With the help I am receiving at college, especially from my tutor Alan, I am confident that I will succeed.”

He added: “I am really hopeful that I will gain an apprenticeship so that I can learn lots more and be a step closer to achieving my goals.”

Trade Academy at Calderdale College

Calderdale College is the largest provider of further education and apprenticeships in Calderdale, as well as the sole provider of higher education. Its state of the art facilities include the new Trade Academy, designed to give students the best possible experience and gain the skills they need to join a well-paid, exciting and rewarding career in construction.

The Trade Academy’s wide range of employer-responsive courses offer students a wealth of career pathways and are all taught by college tutors that have years of trade experience and industry skills. Many of the Trade Academy courses guarantee a work placement with an employer including; British Craft Trade, City & Guilds and Yorkshire Timber.
