Bradford based Water Shed Roofing Ltd – have recently upskilled their workforce through the support and services of Rise at Calderdale College.

The QHSE Manager William Waddell speaks out about the Level 3 management training that they have recently undertaken, its benefits and the impact it has already made and what future training they are considering to carry out with the Rise Team at Calderdale College.

We were established in 1982 as a specialist roofing and cladding company. Serving local councils, building contractors and private clients we quickly grew into one of the largest contractors in the region. All works are carried out using our in-house staff, from concept, to design and installation we can cover almost all disciplines and products used in today’s exciting construction world.
We are based in Bradford, West Yorkshire working from one operational site employing 42 members of staff.

I became familiar with the Rise Team at Calderdale College through an initial telephone call that we received from them. I then agreed for their Employer Engagement Advisor Sherrie Gill to come and meet me at our premises. It was great timing as I was keen to hear more about any management training that may be available due to looking to upskill general management levels with applied skills and knowledge.

Upon hearing what was on offer, I agreed for the relevant information to be sent after which we soon decided on the most suitable course.  The training suggested and presented was ideal for what we were looking for. I also welcomed the funding that was available due to there being more than one member of staff to carry out the training.
We have since had two members of staff not only complete, but enjoy, their training course, achieving the accredited certificate for the Institute of Leadership and Management Training at Level 3 (ILM3).
I have found the process of working alongside Rise very engaging, with good communication and general support throughout. The COVID-19 pandemic interrupted usual face-to-face trainig, but the tutor was very supportive in moving the learning to an online webinar using Zoom to ensure that all participants had all the information required to complete the course.  This extra information and mentoring made it achievable for my staff.
As a result of the training, these managers are demonstrating to be more proactive and motivated daily – the training has made a great impact. I am already planning on exploring other areas of training on offer by the Rise team with a view to further upskill our management team and enhance other skills where possible. I am keen to diversify our team’s key skills and ensure various types of management are supported and catered to beyond HR roles specifically, so I will be speaking with Sherrie and the team again in 2021.Image[/cs_content_seo]
