Course Overview

This course is provided to help you pass GCSE Maths and get you the qualifications that most employers look for. This course is modular and studied at the higher/foundation tier.

Sessions are taught both daytime and evening and include a range of teaching methods. You will have one 3-hour class per week, plus homework.

There are three modules as follows:

  • Module 1: Number
  • Module 2: Statistics
  • Module 3: Space, shape and algebra

You will learn to solve both calculator and non-calculator problems.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

Applicants must hold an existing minimum grade D or grade 3 at GCSE. Functional Skills Maths at Level 1 and/or Adult Numeracy Level 1 qualification achieved within the last three years will also be considered.

You will be invited for an interview where you will complete an online initial assessment. This is to ensure that the course is right for you.

Progression

Students can progress onto any Level 3 programme of study or employment – many employers require a pass at GCSE Maths.

You can also progress onto University degree courses together with relevant level qualifications, particularly teaching, nursing and psychology. This will be discussed with the Adult Progression Officer.

Assessment Methods

There will be weekly assignments set and marked by the tutor, as well as formal mock exams.

The national GCSE exams take place at the end of the academic year in May/June. There are three papers: one non-calculator paper and two calculator papers.
