Course Overview

The NCFE Level 3 Sport and Physical Activity (Sports Coaching pathway) is designed for learners who want to develop the knowledge, skills and experience required to plan, deliver and evaluate coaching sessions. The course combines practical coaching with theoretical understanding of performance, fitness, psychology and training methods.

Learners gain experience working with different participants, developing communication, leadership and organisational skills essential for coaching roles. There is a strong focus on safe practice, improving performance and reflecting on delivery to support athlete development.

The qualification supports progression to higher education, coaching qualifications or employment within the sport and active leisure sector, preparing learners for careers in coaching, teaching or sports development.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

Applicants are required to have 5 GCSE’s at grade 4 or above, including Maths and English. Applicants will be invited for an interview.

Progression

On completion of Year 1 – Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (Year 2). On completion of Year 2 – Higher Education (Sports Coaching, Sports Science, PE), coaching qualifications (e.g. NGB coaching badges), apprenticeships in sport, coaching or fitness or employment in sport and active leisure sector.

Assessment Methods

You will be assessed using a variety of methods such as a portfolio of evidence (coursework-based), practical coaching assessments (planning + delivery), written assignments and analysis tasks, presentations and professional discussions, internally assessed, externally quality assured (no final exams).
