In order to complete it you must have 30 hours of teaching, which can be in a paid or voluntary capacity.

It enables you to gain a fundamental understanding of the roles and responsibilities of a teacher/trainer in relation to legislation, equality and diversity, and meeting the needs of learners. It also addresses the use of assessment and the creation of inclusive learning resources.

The L4 Certificate consists of 5 mandatory units of study (21 credits), the first of which is also part of the Award in Education and Training. These are:

  • Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training
  • Planning to meet the needs of learners in education and training
  • Delivering education and training
  • Assessing learners in education and training
  • Using resources for education and training

You are required to achieve a minimum of 15 credits from further optional units of study. The four units (12 credits) that make up the L3 Award in English for Literacy/ESOL or the L3 Award in Maths Teaching are among these, making it possible to gain this qualification as part of your Certificate. Further options which may be available are:
