Course Overview

Welcome to Pathway to Independence, a specialised program designed by ASDAN to meet the needs of students with special educational needs and disabilities working at Entry 1 level or below. Our aim is to provide equal opportunities for all students, ensuring access to relevant education that fosters skill development and improves life outcomes. If you have learning difficulties and/or disabilities and aspire to gain confidence and independence in life, our tailored study programs are here to support your growth, knowledge, and independence, enabling you to actively participate in various aspects of life, learning, and work activities. 

Bespoke Programme: Pathway to Independence offers a unique curriculum for students working towards Entry Level 1 in communication and personal skills. Aligned with Preparing for Adulthood outcomes, our program focuses on developing essential life skills, including communication, number skills, cooking and budgeting, personal and social development, wellbeing and health, confidence in your community, and celebrating diversity. 

Blended Learning Approach: Our learning environment combines classroom-based instruction with practical activities. You will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on learning experiences both within our college campus and out in the community. Our college kitchen and cafe provide valuable settings for developing essential skills for independence. 

Tailored Learning Experience: We understand the importance of personalised learning. Your Personal Progress journey will be tailored to your unique Preparing for Adulthood and Education Health Care Plan outcomes. This ensures that your educational experience is focused on personal progress, providing you with the best opportunities to engage with the world around you. 

Holistic Development: Our program emphasises the holistic development of students. By focusing on communication, personal skills, practical life skills, and community engagement, we aim to support your growth in various areas and enhance your overall well-being.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

Pathway to Independence is open to students aged 16-24 with an Education Health Care Plan. We welcome students with learning difficulties and/or disabilities who are working at Entry 1 level or below. If you are motivated to become more confident and independent in life, this program is designed to support your individual needs and goals. 

Progression

Upon completion of the Personal Progress course, exciting progression opportunities await you. Our program aims to equip you with the skills and knowledge necessary to transition to further education or continued personal development.  

 Further Education: Progress to further education programs that align with your interests and aspirations. Our college offers a range of courses and qualifications that provide a supportive environment for your continued learning journey. 

Continued Personal Development: Personal Progress is designed to support your ongoing personal growth and development. You can continue to enhance your skills, knowledge, and independence through various learning opportunities, community engagement, and enrichment programs.
