Course Info

The Advanced Apprenticeship in Plumbing is for those interested in all aspects of Plumbing and who want to do the majority of their training in the workplace.

The type of employers range from small businesses to large companies and sometimes you may have to work away from home depending on the contract at the time.

Level 3 learners are expected to work on their own initiative and supervise the work of others.

As an apprentice in Plumbing you will start by working under close supervision of a qualified plumber. You could be working on domestic, commercial or industrial systems.

Aspects of the job will include installing systems, bending and soldering pipe work.

Whilst on site you will build a portfolio of work based evidence as part of the NVQ assessment process.

You will attend College for one day a week to learn about; legal and technical aspects of plumbing and gain knowledge towards your Technical Certificate; as well as working towards completion of your Functional Skills in Maths and English.


The underpinning knowledge, technical certificate and the Functional Skills are delivered at college and the NVQ portfolio is developed in the workplace by gathering evidence towards completion of the practical units.

Attendance of a portfolio building sessions is a requirement.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

Applicants should have completed the full Framework Level 2 Apprenticeship.

All applicants will be interviewed and assessed for suitability by a Training Officer.

Applicants will be expected to be in relevant employment with the support of an employer who can offer work that supports NVQ completion.
