Do you want to learn English? This course helps students from other countries to develop their skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing in English. We offer this course from Pre Entry level up to Level 1.
You will work with students from different countries. We cover topics that will help you in employment, everyday life, and in the community. There may also be opportunities for work experience and trips.
It is a part-time course and you will usually attend 2 classes a week. At the end of the course, you will gain a recognised Certificate in ESOL Skills for Life with City & Guilds.

The class will have different activities where you will work together, in small groups, in pairs, or on your own. Topics will include shopping, health, family life, and caring for the environment.

Entry Requirements & Interview Process
This course is for people who don’t speak English as a first language.
You do not need to have any qualifications or to have learned English before.
You will be invited to an interview to talk to the teachers to check that this is the right course for you.
Please note that if you are an Asylum Seeker you must have been in the UK for at least 6 months before you can start the course.
Progression
You can progress through the levels of ESOL; Pre-Entry, Entry 1, Entry 2, Entry 3 and Level 1, and then to Functional Skills or GCSE English.
If you are working at Entry 3 or above, you may apply for other courses in college. This will be discussed with the Adult Progression Officer.
Assessment Methods
Your teacher will discuss your progress with you every week. You will have the opportunity to ask questions about your course and your tutor will set you targets.
There is an exam at the end of each qualification; Speaking and Listening, Reading, Writing. Each qualification takes 12 weeks. This means that it takes a year to complete a full level of ESOL.
Good attendance is important so that you will complete all qualifications.
