Course Overview

If you are 16-18 years old, English is your second language and you would like to progress your English, this is the course for you.

Students will learn how to speak, read and write everyday English and can start working towards a nationally recognised qualification.

This programme is the first step on the ladder to progressing into Vocational learning, Apprenticeships and employment.

The individual qualifications are selected on the basis of relevance to the development of skills, attributes and qualities, along with qualifications and to ensure the best progression into employment, the qualifications studied within the programme are:

  • ESOL Skills for Life All Modes
  • Employability/Work skills
  • Personal and Social Development
  • Functional Skills Maths and ICT

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

An initial assessment will determine entry onto the right level course.

Additional Assessment for Learning will take place during the two week course induction to ensure that learners are on the correct level to suit their skills, ability and previous learning.

Progression

On Successful completion of your programme of study you will progress to the next level up to and including Level 1 where appropriate.

Progression from the Foundation Learning ESOL programme will then progress into the vocational area of your choice, an Apprenticeship in the vocational area of your choice and/or employment.

Assessment Methods

Progress is monitored closely and assessed regularly through coursework and review of the Individual Learning Plan.

Learners will also complete mock tests and the course is formally assessed by examination at all levels.
