Course Overview

A perfect step-up from the Level 1 Hairdressing VRQ or the Introductory to Hairdressing & Barbering course. This course is taught 4 days a week over a 36 week period, and 16-18s will attend at least 16 hours per week plus Maths and English if they have not already achieved a GCSE grade C/4 or above.

This course is designed for those who wish to the learn the art of hairdressing and discover how to recreate styles seen on the catwalk and on your favourite celebrities.

During the course you will learn, practice and perform on paying clients, a variety of treatments. All learners will be encouraged to take their own initiative and work more independently, whilst building their confidence and communication skills.

Students will get hands-on experience of shampooing, conditioning and treating the hair and scalp, using a variety of products and massage techniques. Applicants must be prepared to work one day per week in the industry, and one separate block week during the course. To be able to complete this course, purchase of a hairdressing kit and uniform is required, which are available from the college.

  • Shampoo and conditioning hair
  • Style and finish
  • Change hair colour
  • Set and dress hair
  • Cut hair using basic techniques

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

Applicants must possess Level 1 Hairdressing or 4 GCSEs at grade D/grade 3 or above to include Maths and English.

Applicants will be invited to attend an admissions event which will assess dexterity, literacy and numeracy and you will be expected to demonstrate enthusiasm, commitment and good communication skills. This can be done in person or by telephone.

Progression

On completion, you will be able to progress on to either the Level 3 VRQ in Hairdressing or the Advanced Apprenticeship to further develop your skills to become a first class Hairdresser.

Career Opportunities
Employment, including salon work, self-employment, and cruise ships.

Assessment Methods

The course is based on development and assessment of practical skills. You will be assessed through observations of practical ability, photographs of work, treatment plans, written assignments, external tests, mood boards, online learning and completion of a portfolio of work.
