Course Overview

This qualification is aimed at learners who wish to work within an Early Years setting.

The course covers a range of key subject areas that sets out the minimum knowledge, understanding and skills that a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner needs to demonstrate to be qualified to support babies and young children from birth to 5 years old.

This qualification meets the Early Year Practitioner (EYP) criteria, for the purposes of the staff: child ratios at Level 2 in the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

This course is a balance of knowledge and practical skills, being both in college and out on work placement.

You will complete 250 placement hours, which will be done two days a week during term time. The course provides students with the skills needed to go out into employment.

  • Healthy eating
  • Supporting babies and young children’s physical development
  • Child development

Entry Requirements & Interview Process

4 level 3 GCSE or above. This must include a minimum of a Level 3 in Math’s and English language.

Progression

The course has been designed to support learners to progress onto Further Education and Higher Education courses in the field of Childcare and Early Years.

Assessment Methods

All units are assessed through course work and work placements, which involves observations and professional discussions.
