Six things you can expect from our free mentoring training

Workplace mentoring can be really beneficial, not just for the individual being mentored, but also for the mentor.

Mentors are given the opportunity to develop their leadership skills, while mentees receive brilliant advice and guidance, helping them to achieve their career goals. These benefits also have a ripple effect across the whole business, which in turn will create a happier, more productive workplace with strong working relationships.

As part of our Collaborative Apprenticeships project, we offer fully funded* training in this area, designed to help mentors and managers understand the role and nature of mentoring, as well as teaching them how they can effectively support an apprentice as they progress through their career journey.

Depending on how much mentoring experience you or your staff have, you can sign yourself and your team up to either a Level 2 or a Level 3 programme. But what can learners expect from the training? And what will they take away once the training is complete?

  1. To be taught by a knowledgeable tutor

Our course tutor is not only an expert in the field of mentoring but is also experienced in providing skills training – so those participating in the training will be in great hands! They will make learners feel at ease during the sessions, and when people are relaxed, they’re in a much better position to understand how to be the best and most supportive mentor to their apprentices.

  1. Content that’s easy to understand

Across the programme, the content is broken down into smaller modules to help learners easily get to grips with core concepts such as what makes a mentor effective in their role, and how to organise mentoring within a business. The trainer is also on hand throughout the training, and even after all learning has been completed, to answer any questions or help participants if they’re struggling.

  1. To receive a nationally recognised qualification

Once learners have completed either the Level 2 or the Level 3 course, they’ll receive a certificate accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM). Coming from a professional body which helps to inspire effective leadership, this qualification is a great way to boost skills and bolster CVs.

  1. To learn transferable skills

The training will help learners to build on and understand the importance of key skills such as communication, relationship building and leadership. What’s more is that these skills can be transferred outside of their role as a mentor, helping them to not only be the best mentor that they can possibly be, but also to reach their career goals across other aspects of their role.

  1. Time to reflect on what they’ve learned

As the courses are held over either one and a half or two days, learners have time away from the classroom to reflect on what they’ve learnt so far. Having this space to think also gives them the chance to think up any questions they might want to ask that they might not have thought of at the time.

  1. Access to the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (UK)

As an added bonus, learners will receive access to the UK arm of the European Mentoring and Coaching Council (EMCC), an organisation which seeks to establish best practice for professional mentoring. The EMCC offers a wide range of resources and courses to help participants develop as they progress throughout their mentoring journey.

The next mentoring sessions will be held on the 7th and 8th February. To book onto the training, please get in touch with the team by emailing us on:

The training is part of the Collaborative Apprenticeships project and is funded by the European Social Fund (ESF). The project is managed by the West Yorkshire Consortium of Colleges (WYCC) and Calderdale College is supporting the delivery.
