Tip 5: Time Management

 

Time management helps you to make sure you get the most out of the time you invest in your research and work.

Producing a time management plan may at first seem like an additional piece of work, however it helps you to maintain focus and complete work to the best of your ability within a specific time period.

 

Why is it Important?

When you are working to tight deadlines, it can be tempting to skip this initial planning stage.  But it is an essential step to producing a good piece of work.

It helps you to maintain focus and ensure all tasks are completed, including research, referencing, completing a first draft, proofreading, amending and submitting on time.

Failing to plan your time effectively may result in you missing some of the important stages identified above, this will have a direct impact on the quality of your work and the grade you achieve.

Running out of time could result in careless errors being made, or important information being missed out of your work. You need to make sure you have met all assessment requirements within a timely manner. Failing to plan may result in you missing key information.

Techniques for Time Management

  • No distractions or interruptions – turn off all devices including your phone
  • Reward yourself for sticking to your time management plan
  • Make a note of things that have affected you from achieving your deadlines. Use this to help you think about planning to meet deadlines in the future. What could you avoid doing? What days and times are you least / most effective?
